In a harrowing incident that has shocked the nation, a 15-day-old baby girl was recently rescued after being found buried alive in a village in Shahjahanpur district, Uttar Pradesh. The infant’s remarkable survival and the subsequent investigation have brought attention to grave social concerns and the urgent need for child protection.

Discovery and Rescue

The baby was discovered by a local shepherd named Dubloo while he was grazing his goats near the Bahgul riverbank in the Godapur area. Hearing faint cries, Dubloo noticed a tiny hand protruding from the soil under a small mound. On closer inspection, he realized the newborn was buried about a foot deep but was still alive, prompting him to raise an alarm. Villagers quickly gathered, carefully dug the infant out, and rushed her to the local health centre.

Police Superintendent Rajesh Dwivedi confirmed the rescue and stated that the baby was immediately shifted to Shahjahanpur’s Government Medical College, where she was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (ICU). Doctors reported that she was in critical condition, with her hand severely bitten by ants and bleeding due to prolonged burial.

Medical Condition and Care

Dr. Rajesh Kumar, the principal of the Government Medical College, described the infant’s fragile state, mentioning that she was estimated to be 10-15 days old. Dedicated doctors have been assigned to monitor her condition closely. Despite the severe trauma, medical staff are hopeful for her recovery.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities launched a thorough probe to identify and locate the baby’s parents and the individuals responsible for abandoning and burying her alive. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras along the Bahgul river road to gather clues. Investigators suspect deliberate abandonment, noting that the baby was buried with a small air gap left intentionally, allowing her to breathe.

Station House Officer Gaurav Tyagi affirmed that efforts are underway to trace those responsible, promising strict action once the culprits are identified.

Community Reaction and Social Concerns

The incident has deeply disturbed residents of the region and sparked widespread condemnation. Local villagers expressed shock and sorrow over the baby’s inhumane treatment. The case has reopened conversations about child welfare, the dangers faced by newborns in vulnerable communities, and the necessity for stronger protective measures.

Parting Thoughts

The rescue of the 15-day-old infant is a stark reminder of the dark realities some newborns face in parts of the country. Authorities continue their search for the culprits, and the community hopes for justice and swift medical recovery for the baby. This incident calls for urgent attention to safeguard the rights and lives of the youngest and most vulnerable.
