A disturbing case of alleged human trafficking has come to light after a Bangladeshi woman accused traffickers of luring her to India with false promises of employment and selling her in Delhi, exposing the brutal realities of cross-border exploitation and organised crime.
According to the woman’s account, she was approached in Bangladesh with the assurance of a legitimate job opportunity in India. Trusting the offer, she agreed to travel, unaware that she was stepping into a carefully planned trafficking operation. Along with several other women, she was allegedly taken across the India-Bangladesh border through informal routes and transported to Assam.
The survivor claimed that once inside India, traffickers provided her with a fake Indian identity, including a new name and forged documents, to avoid detection. She was then moved to Delhi, where she alleges she was sold and forced into an exploitative situation instead of the promised employment.
After days of fear and uncertainty, the woman managed to escape. Her journey to safety, however, was far from easy. She reportedly travelled across multiple states alone, seeking help from police stations but facing confusion over jurisdiction. At times, she spent nights stranded in unfamiliar places until locals offered temporary assistance.
Eventually, she reached authorities in Assam, where she was taken into protective custody. In an emotional statement, the woman said she fears for the safety of other girls who were trafficked alongside her and expressed her desire to return to Bangladesh and help expose the network responsible for the alleged crimes.
She further alleged that the traffickers charged large sums of money from victims under the guise of job placement, only to abandon them to exploitation once they reached India. The case has highlighted how vulnerable women are targeted using economic desperation and false hopes of a better future.
Police officials confirmed that an investigation has been launched to verify the woman’s claims. Authorities are examining possible links to an organised human trafficking network operating across borders and coordinating the movement, documentation, and sale of victims within India.
The woman remains under official protection as her identity and statements are being verified. Law enforcement agencies are also coordinating with other departments to determine the next steps regarding her safety, legal status, and possible repatriation.
The case has renewed concerns among activists and rights groups about the persistent threat of cross-border human trafficking, calling for stronger surveillance, improved victim support systems, and closer cooperation between neighbouring countries to dismantle trafficking networks. As investigations continue, the woman’s account serves as a stark reminder of the hidden crimes unfolding behind promises of employment and the urgent need for accountability, protection, and justice for trafficking survivors.
