Patna, Bihar Crime News
A spate of criminal incidents across Bihar has underscored growing law and order challenges in the run-up to the Assembly elections. In one of the more violent episodes, a young man was shot dead in Sitamarhi, while elsewhere authorities seized large consignments of illicit liquor and moved against alleged sexual violence and negligent driving.
Sitamarhi Killing Raises Alarm
In the Belasand area of Sitamarhi district, unknown assailants ambushed a 35-year-old local, identified as Ravi Singh of Bhorha village, as he rode pillion on a motorcycle. The gunmen opened fire with three shots near the Bhataulia cremation ground, killing him on the spot. The incident has sparked fears among residents and intensified pressure on local police to make quick arrests.
Liquor Seizure Escalates in Ara & Bhojpur
In another operation, police in Ara, acting on intelligence, intercepted vehicles suspected of transporting bootleg liquor. One of the seizures occurred on NH-227 near Belsund, where authorities impounded cash amounting to ₹8.25 lakh from an individual riding a motorcycle who could not produce valid papers. Further efforts in Bhojpur led to the seizure of roughly 295 litres of imported liquor from a Mahindra Bolero, valued around ₹5 lakh, allegedly en route from Uttar Pradesh to Sonpur. A suspect, Ramesh Kumar, was apprehended at the scene.
Rape Claim Surfaces in Muzaffarpur
In Muzaffarpur’s Kanti block, a serious allegation has emerged. A 13-year-old girl, now pregnant, has accused two neighbors of sexually assaulting her in July and threatening her life if she spoke up. The matter came to light after she complained of abdominal pain, prompting an ultrasound scan that confirmed five months’ pregnancy. The victim’s father has filed a First Information Report (FIR), and police have detained one suspect while searching for the other.
Deadly Road Crashes Intensify Worries
Tragedy struck in Nalanda district when three young men, returning from a meal outing, collided head-on with a tempo on the Sarmra–Bihta main road. Two riders died instantly, while the third was gravely injured and is now under treatment. Separately, in Danapur on Khagol Road, a speeding Inova car rammed into a stationary tractor carrying iron rods, causing at least two deaths including a laborer and a young passenger; several others remain wounded.
Statewide Crackdowns & Vigilance Actions
With the state now in electoral mode, enforcement agencies have ramped up operations. Patna police and excise officials have launched joint drives targeting liquor trafficking. In parallel, the Vigilance Department has conducted raids in Darbhanga on a senior electricity department official over alleged disproportionate assets, seizing documents and cash in preliminary investigations. In light of these incidents, public calls for stricter policing and faster judicial action are growing. Whether the state machinery can deliver on safety and justice in the coming days may prove to be a critical yardstick for governance credibility in Bihar.
