A powerful explosion ripped through the area near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, sending shockwaves across the national capital. The blast, which originated from a parked car, triggered a massive fire that engulfed several nearby vehicles 8 dead and 16 injured.

What Happened
Around 7 PM, residents and commuters heard a loud blast followed by flames near the Red Fort Metro exit. Eyewitness Ramesh Kumar, a shopkeeper near the metro gate, said, “It felt like an earthquake. The blast was so loud that everyone started running. We saw flames shooting up and cars catching fire one after another.”

Following the explosion, authorities in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Mumbai have been directed to tighten surveillance, especially around transport hubs and heritage sites.
Police patrols have increased visibility, and drone surveillance is being used to monitor movement near sensitive zones.

A senior Delhi Fire Service official confirmed, “We received a call about a car explosion near Gate 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station. Three to four vehicles caught fire. Our teams managed to contain the blaze before it spread further.”
The Special Cell of Delhi Police has begun collecting CCTV footage from nearby shops and metro entry points to trace the vehicle’s movement before the explosion.
