Goa has been shaken by a disturbing double murder case involving foreign nationals after a Russian tourist was arrested for allegedly killing two women in North Goa, including a woman believed to be his live-in partner, police said. The incident, which unfolded across two popular coastal locations, has raised serious concerns and triggered intense investigation into what led to the brutal killings.

According to police officials, the accused identified as Aleksei Leonov (37) was taken into custody in the early hours of Friday, just hours after the body of a Russian woman was discovered inside a rented room in Arambol, a well-known tourist spot in North Goa. The victim, identified as Elena Kasthanova (37), was reportedly found in a chilling condition, with signs of violent attack.

Investigators said the discovery was made after the landlord reportedly entered the room and found the woman dead. The case initially appeared to be a single murder, but during questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to committing another killing as well, leading police to a second location where another body was found.

The second victim has been identified as Elena Vaneeva (37). Her body was reportedly recovered from the Morjim area. Police suspect the second killing may have taken place earlier, and the accused allegedly led the police to the spot after revealing details during interrogation. Both women were said to be known to each other, adding another layer of complexity to the case.

Authorities said both killings involved extreme violence, and early information suggests the women may have been attacked with a sharp weapon. The exact motive remains unclear, and officials are currently working to piece together the timeline, examine forensic evidence, and verify the accused’s statements.

Police also stated that Elena Kasthanova had reportedly been living in Goa since 2024 and was believed to be in a live-in relationship with Aleksei Leonov. Investigators are now examining whether relationship disputes, personal conflicts, or other triggers may have played a role, while keeping all angles open.

The case has sparked shock among locals and tourists alike, especially since both incidents happened in areas that are known for attracting international visitors. Law enforcement teams are now focusing on recovering key evidence, confirming the sequence of events, and ensuring the investigation is airtight before further legal action proceeds. As the probe continues, the crime has once again highlighted the need for stronger monitoring and safety support for long-term tourists and foreigners living in rented accommodations in popular travel zones. Meanwhile, police officials have assured that the investigation is being handled on priority and more details will emerge once forensic reports and official statements are fully compiled.
