A wave of anger and grief swept through Ramgarh, Jharkhand, after an anganwadi worker was found dead under mysterious circumstances near a highway on Sunday. Within just 30 hours, police solved the case and arrested the accused, a truck driver named Surendra Yadav, who later confessed to the brutal crime.

According to the police, the victim, identified as Anjali Gadi, had left home early in the morning when she was allegedly intercepted by the truck driver near a roadside shelter. Investigators believe that Yadav assaulted her and later killed her to hide the crime. Her body was found lying near the road, sending shock and outrage across the region.

Soon after the discovery, hundreds of local residents and women’s groups gathered on the Ramgarh–Patratu highway, blocking traffic for nearly 12 hours. The protesters demanded justice and immediate action against the accused. Many called for the death penalty, saying crimes against women are increasing and need harsher punishment.

Taking swift action, Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar formed a 14-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to track down the culprit. Using CCTV footage, mobile tracking, and forensic evidence, the police were able to identify Surendra Yadav, a 41-year-old driver from Sherghati, Bihar. He was arrested from Khelari, near Ranchi, and taken into custody for questioning.

During interrogation, Yadav reportedly confessed to the crime. Police revealed that just before the attack, he had been watching inappropriate videos on his phone and was under the influence of alcohol. After the murder, he attempted to flee and even used mobile apps to monitor police activity to avoid arrest.

The victim’s family and co-workers are devastated. “She was a kind woman who helped everyone in the village. We want justice for her,” said one of her relatives, standing outside the police station as the news of the arrest spread.

Authorities said the accused will face charges of rape and murder, and the case will be treated as a top priority. The post-mortem and forensic reports are awaited and will help confirm the details of the assault and cause of death.

Senior police officials praised the investigative team for acting swiftly and ensuring that the accused was caught before he could escape the state. “This case shows that no criminal can run for long. We will bring justice to the victim and her family,” the SP said in a statement.

The murder has once again raised questions about women’s safety in smaller towns and highway routes. Locals have demanded stricter night patrols, more CCTV coverage, and stronger security for women workers who travel early or late for duty. As Ramgarh mourns the loss of a dedicated community worker, the swift arrest has given a ray of hope that justice, at least this time, might not be delayed.
