A heartbreaking story has emerged from Ludhiana where Rupinder Kaur Pandher, a 71-year-old US citizen of Indian origin, was brutally murdered after traveling from Seattle to India with hopes of marriage. Rupinder had come to marry Charanjit Singh Grewal, a 75-year-old UK-based NRI originally from Ludhiana.

Authorities say the tragic events unfolded in July when Rupinder was allegedly killed in cold blood. Police revealed that Charanjit had hired an associate, Sukhjeet Singh, to carry out the horrific act. Sukhjeet, a typist at the Ludhiana district court, confessed to bludgeoning Rupinder to death with a baseball bat at his home. He then burned her body and attempted to hide the remains by dumping them in a drain near Ghungrana village.

Investigations showed that Rupinder had transferred a large sum of money to Charanjit before coming to India. However, as the wedding approached, Charanjit apparently changed his mind about the marriage. Fearing Rupinder’s growing threats to expose him, Charanjit allegedly paid Sukhjeet ₹50 lakh to eliminate her.

Rupinder’s sister, Kamaljit Khaizah, grew worried when she lost contact with her sibling. She reached out to the US embassy, which urged local police to investigate. The truth came to light only recently after Sukhjeet’s confession and the discovery of Rupinder’s skeletal remains.

Deputy Inspector General Satinder Singh confirmed that Charanjit is currently absconding in the UK. The police continue searching for further evidence and are tracing the money trail connected to the accused. The case now crosses borders, painting a chilling picture of betrayal and greed tangled in what started as a promise of love.

This shocking incident serves as a grim reminder that sometimes relationships hidden behind promises and distance can turn dangerously dark.
