Zubeen Garg Murder News
The mysterious death of Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg in Singapore has taken a shocking turn after his bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, currently in police custody, alleged that Garg was poisoned by his own manager and a festival organiser.
According to police remand papers, Goswami claimed that Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma and organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta plotted the poisoning during the 4th North East India Festival in Singapore. He alleged that when Garg began struggling in the sea, Sharma said, “Let him go,” instead of helping him, raising suspicions of foul play. The remand note also states that Sharma prevented others from sharing yacht videos and downplayed Garg’s medical emergency as “acid reflux.” Authorities now believe the incident may have been a planned murder disguised as an accident.
The Assam CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) and a judicial commission are jointly probing the case. All four Sharma, Mahanta, Goswami, and fellow musician Amritprabha Mahanta remain in custody for interrogation. The death of Zubeen Garg, a voice that united generations across the Northeast has now become a case wrapped in allegations, political links, and the haunting question: Was it really an accident, or a betrayal from within?
Investigation Intensifies
Garg’s death, which occurred while he was in Singapore to attend the 4th North East India Festival (organised by Shyamkanu Mahanta), has already triggered major investigations. A nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) under Assam’s CID is currently probing the case, and the Assam government has set up a one-man judicial commission to further scrutinize the incident.
Already in custody are:
- Siddharth Sharma (manager)
- Shyamkanu Mahanta (festival organiser)
- Shekhar Jyoti Goswami (bandmate, the accuser)
- Amritprabha Mahanta (another band member)
They have been remanded by police for 14 days pending further inquiry.
