In a chilling discovery straight out of a crime thriller, police in Ahmedabad have uncovered the remains of a man who had been missing for over a year buried beneath the kitchen floor of his own home. The shocking revelation has stunned the city and reignited conversations about hidden crimes within domestic walls.
The victim, identified as Mohammed Israil Akbarali Ansari, also known as Sameer Bihari, was a mason from Siwan district in Bihar. He had been living in Ahmedabad’s Sarkhej area with his wife Ruby and their two children for several years. For nearly a year, Ansari had been listed as missing, and his disappearance had largely gone unnoticed beyond a few family inquiries.
The truth came to light only after police received an anonymous tip suggesting foul play within the household. Acting on the information, a team from the city’s crime branch excavated the kitchen area of the couple’s home. What they found was gruesome skeletal remains, bone fragments, and traces of decomposed flesh hidden beneath the kitchen platform, sealed tightly with cement and floor tiles. Investigators later confirmed that the burial site had been concealed so well that it had gone undetected for months while the family continued living and cooking meals in the same space.
Initial investigations revealed that Ruby, the wife, had allegedly been involved in an affair with another man named Imran Vaghela. Police believe the duo, along with two accomplices identified as Mohsin Pathan and Rahim Shaikh conspired to kill Ansari. According to investigators, the motive was rooted in the wife’s relationship with Imran and the victim’s frequent confrontations with her over it.
Police sources said that on the night of the crime, Ansari was attacked and his throat slit before his body was buried under the newly constructed kitchen floor. To mask the stench, the suspects sealed the pit with concrete and continued with their daily lives, pretending nothing had happened. For over a year, the secret remained hidden until the anonymous tip led to the shocking unearthing.
The discovery has left neighbours and the wider community horrified. Many residents expressed disbelief, saying the family appeared normal and no one suspected such a dark secret behind their walls. One neighbour said, “They lived among us like any other family. We never imagined there was a body buried just a few feet away.”
Forensic experts have collected samples from the remains for DNA testing to establish the victim’s identity beyond doubt. Meanwhile, all accused individuals have been taken into custody and are expected to face charges of murder and destruction of evidence. The police are also investigating whether more people were aware of the crime or helped conceal it.
This incident has not only shocked the public but also drawn comparisons to the plot of the hit film Drishyam, in which a murder is covered up with meticulous planning and a body is hidden in plain sight. However, this case is a grim reminder that such crimes are not confined to fiction they unfold in real homes, often driven by betrayal and domestic conflict.
As investigators continue their probe, the Bilaspur kitchen floor now stands as a haunting symbol of how far people can go to hide the truth. What was once a space of warmth and family life has now become the center of one of the most disturbing murder mysteries in recent memory.
