Popular Haryanvi actor Uttam Kumar has been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police in connection with a rape case, sending shockwaves through the regional entertainment industry. The 34-year-old actor, known for his roles in music videos and regional cinema, was taken into custody late Sunday night following a complaint filed by a 25-year-old singer.
The Allegations
According to police officials, the singer accused Kumar of sexually assaulting her after allegedly luring her with promises of professional collaboration. The complaint further stated that the incident took place at a private residence during what was supposed to be a music project discussion.
The survivor has provided her statement to the police, and medical examinations have been conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Arrest and Health Concerns
Soon after his arrest, Kumar reportedly complained of chest pain and high blood pressure. He was admitted to a government hospital in Lucknow under police security, where doctors confirmed that he is under observation but out of immediate danger.
“He was brought in late last night with health complaints. His condition is stable, and he will remain under monitoring for the next 48 hours,” a senior doctor at the hospital told reporters.
Police Statement
Uttar Pradesh Police have confirmed that Kumar has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rape (Section 376).
“The investigation is underway, and no one is above the law. Once his medical condition stabilizes, further questioning will be conducted,” said a senior police officer.
Industry Shock
The arrest has left the Haryanvi entertainment community in turmoil. Kumar, who has acted in several music albums and regional films, enjoys a significant fan following. While some fans have expressed disbelief, women’s rights groups have welcomed the action, saying it sends a strong message about accountability in the entertainment industry.
The Bigger Picture
This case adds to the growing list of allegations of sexual harassment and assault surfacing from regional and Bollywood entertainment circuits. Experts say that while more women are coming forward to file complaints, stigma and pressure still deter many from speaking up.
What’s Next
Kumar remains in police custody, though under medical supervision. The case is expected to go to court once the investigation report is filed.
For now, the spotlight is firmly on how the legal system will handle this high-profile case, which has stirred debates on power dynamics, consent, and accountability in India’s entertainment world.
