A chilling double murder in northeast Delhi’s Pratap Nagar district has sent shockwaves through the local community. On the evening of September 5, 2025, two men were gunned down in a brazen act of violence, leaving residents fearful and demanding swift action from law enforcement agencies.
The Incident: Brutal Shooting in Broad Daylight
Around 7:15 pm that Friday, Sudhir alias Bunty (35) and Radhey Prajapati (30) were sitting near the parking area of C-Block in Pratap Nagar when a group of assailants arrived on motorcycles and opened fire. Both victims were rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital but succumbed to their injuries shortly afterward.
The police immediately registered a case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act, launching a multi-pronged investigation involving forensic experts and local intelligence teams.
Police Action: Arrests and Evidence Recovery
Within days, Delhi Police apprehended four key suspects—Chetanya Tomar, Pradeep Bhati, Pawan Bhati (aka Dagga), and Pramod—all residents of Delhi or nearby western Uttar Pradesh. Authorities seized two firearms, a cartridge, and the motorcycles used in the crime.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Ashish Mishra stated, “The accused confessed to the double murder. The crime stemmed from an old enmity between the victims and the assailants.” Pawan Bhati was revealed to have a long criminal history, including attempted murder and robbery.
The Backstory: Old Grudges Explode
The bloodshed was reportedly the fallout of a violent dispute dating back to August 29 involving the two victims and members of the accused group. The escalating tension climaxed in this deadly shooting, shaking the entire neighborhood.
Sudhir’s brother, Ajay, lamented, “There was a heated altercation days before the shooting. We feared something terrible might happen, but nothing could prepare us for this.”
Community Impact: Fear and Demand for Justice
The incident has left residents in apprehension and mourning. The targeted nature of the attack and the brutal method have raised concerns about rising gang-related violence in the area.
Community leaders and locals have called for enhanced police patrols, stronger law enforcement presence, and faster prosecution to restore a sense of security.
The Hunt Continues: Remaining Suspects at Large
While four suspects are in custody, two others Dev Pratap Singh and Sumit remain on the run, with police intensifying their search. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and provide any information that could aid in their capture.
A Harsh Reality
This double murder highlights the dangerous consequences of long-standing enmities and the ease with which personal conflicts can escalate into violence. It also underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in controlling armed crimes in urban pockets. The police remain committed to unraveling the full chain of events and ensuring justice for the victims and their grieving families, while the community hopes for peace to return to Pratap Nagar.
