Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to express his congratulations over recent developments in the Gaza peace agreement. Modi welcomed the move toward the release of hostages and greater humanitarian support for Gaza, and reaffirmed that terrorism is unacceptable in any form.
During the phone conversation, Modi described Netanyahu as a friend and said he was glad to see progress under the U.S.-brokered peace plan. He emphasized India’s support for efforts to help civilians in Gaza and to bring lasting calm to the region. Netanyahu reportedly paused a key government meeting to receive Modi’s call, underlining the importance of the moment.
Modi’s message closely followed an earlier call with U.S. President Donald Trump, in which he congratulated him on the “historic Gaza peace plan” and noted India’s interest in trade and diplomatic coordination in the coming weeks.
India’s official channels confirmed the exchange, noting that Modi specifically welcomed the agreement for the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian aid to Gaza’s people. He also stressed that terrorism, in any shape or form, should not be tolerated, reaffirming a strong diplomatic position from India.
In sending his congratulations, Modi added that Israel’s leadership, especially that of Netanyahu, played a critical role in enabling this breakthrough. He expressed hope that the agreement would lead to lasting peace, and indicated India’s readiness to support any steps that would reduce suffering and promote stability in the region.
