In a shocking twist to what was believed to be an acid attack in Delhi, police have arrested the father of a Delhi University student for allegedly staging the attack to falsely implicate another man. What began as a case of brutality has turned into a chilling story of deceit, revenge, and manipulation.
The case initially gained attention when a 20-year-old student claimed that an unknown man had thrown acid on her in northwest Delhi, leaving her injured and traumatized. The news sparked outrage across the city, with many demanding swift justice. But as police began investigating, they discovered major inconsistencies in her story.
According to investigators, it was not an acid attack at all. The substance used was toilet cleaner, and the entire incident was scripted by the girl’s father, identified as Aqil Khan. Police say he made his daughter fake the assault to frame a man against whom he held a personal grudge.
Further investigation revealed that the accused father had a personal dispute with the man he wanted to frame, and had even been named in a separate criminal case involving the same family. To shift suspicion and gain sympathy, he allegedly convinced his daughter to act as a victim and staged the entire attack.
During interrogation, Aqil confessed to plotting the incident and admitted to buying the cleaning liquid used in the act. The police have also detained his brother and nephew, who reportedly helped in executing the plan.
Officials confirmed that the case now falls under criminal conspiracy, filing false charges, and misleading the police, along with potential charges under sections related to public mischief and tampering with evidence.
A senior police officer described the case as one of the most “calculated and disturbing examples” of manipulation in recent times. “Acid attack laws exist to protect genuine victims not to be used as weapons of revenge. This kind of act not only wastes investigative resources but also damages the credibility of real survivors,” the officer said.
The Delhi Police added that the so-called “victim” will also face legal action for participating in the deception. Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage, phone data, and financial records to trace how the plan was carried out.
Meanwhile, social organizations and women’s rights groups have condemned the incident, calling it a betrayal of public trust and an insult to real acid attack survivors who have fought lifelong battles for justice and rehabilitation.
Experts say the case underscores the importance of verifying facts before drawing conclusions in sensitive crimes. “False cases not only destroy reputations but also create social mistrust. It’s tragic that sympathy for real victims could be weakened by such fabrications,” said a Delhi-based legal activist. As investigations continue, the Delhi Police have urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation and to allow the law to take its course. The case serves as a grim reminder that truth can be twisted and justice misused when personal vengeance takes control.
